Suburbanites storm Apple for new iPhone 6

Apple fans waited in line for hours Friday to get their hands on the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Long lines formed at Apple retail stores around the suburbs and shorter crowds gathered at wireless carrier stores like Verizon and AT&T.

The South Elgin At&T store opened their doors early today to accommodate customers. The in-stock phones sold out shortly after 8:30 a.m. Other customers had to order the phone to be picked up at a later date.

"This is my second year of getting the phone on its first day of release and, fortunately, I'm the last person at this AT&T to get this phone" Devang Patel of Elgin said. "I really like this phone, the screen size is a really big plus."

Pre-orders for the new iPhone models already topped 4 million in the first 24 hours, setting a record, according to Apple.
