5 places to enjoy the last gasp of summer

Fall may be starting, but Saturday's weather forecast sure screams summer. So get out and enjoy those 80-degree temps at festivals and other outdoor events in the suburbs.

Old-fashioned fun: Lakewood Forest Preserve's annual Farm Heritage Festival features sheepherding demonstrations, scarecrow making, a tractor parade, children's activities, wagon rides, music and more. Visitors can also see hundreds of antique tractors and other farm machinery at the forest preserve, on Route 176 west of Fairfield Road, Wauconda. $5-$10 daily admission. lcfpd.org. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Eye on Art: Enjoy art indoors and out at the Art in Your Eye festival in Batavia. The Outdoor Fine Arts show along the Riverwalk downtown has 70 artists from around the country, while the City Hall Art Exhibit at 100 N. Island Ave. features a juried display by local artists. Other highlights are art demonstrations, children's art activities and musical entertainment. Free. artinyoureye.com. 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Naperville Pow Wow: Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville, plays host to a Harvest Pow Wow celebrating Native American culture. The grand entry of the dancers is at 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 adults, $7 ages 62 and older and ages 3-12. Mayer and more: John Mayer, Phillip Phillips of "American Idol" fame, Twin Forks and California Wives are among the acts playing the daylong Food Network in Concert event that combines entertainment with food Saturday at Ravinia Festival, 418 Sheridan Road, Highland Park. $99-$299; with optional food package add-ons. Oktober in September: Enjoy German music, food and beer at Palatine's Oktoberfest, located across from the Metra station at 150 W. Slade. Family activities Saturday include a bike ride, crafts, balloon art and more. Free admission. palatinerotary.com. Noon to midnight Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
