Aurora cops looking for man who tried to lure children

Aurora police are looking for a man who tried to lure two young children into his van about 7:50 a.m. Thursday outside Nancy Hill Elementary School on the 700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue on the city's near west side.

Police said an 11-year-old girl and her 7-year-old brother were standing on the northeast corner of Illinois and Pennsylvania avenues when a man inside a large, gray van parked on Illinois Avenue told both youngsters to get in the vehicle. The girl told police she and her brother ran across the street to alert authorities at the school and the man apparently left the area.

The suspect was described as a black male, with black, medium-length braided hair and possibly a scar on his right cheek. The girl said there were no windows on the sides or back of the van.

Anyone with information is asked to call Aurora Police at (630) 256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000. Calls to Crime Stoppers are anonymous and qualify for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to arrests.
