Barrington teen's Chili Dump Run to benefit people with disabilities
Runners will hit the roads of Lake Barrington Sunday while others create one-of-a-kind chili at the 2nd Annual Chili Dump Run, an event organized by a Barrington teen to raise money for a home for people with developmental disabilities.
Ian Fournie, 15, wrote on the event's website that the money garnered the event will be donated to Misercordia, a Chicago facility where his good friend, 16-year-old Alex Bronton, resides.
The Chili Dump Run will begin at the Shady Hill Marina, near 28717 W. Ravine Drive, in Lake Barrington. Participants can choose to either run on a 5k course around the Shady Hills and Barrington Harbor neighborhoods and along the Fox River, or walk along a 2k route.
When the runners and walkers finish, the chili dump portion of the event begins.
"Residents bring a pot of their favorite chili recipe and it's all dumped together into a much larger pot to blend the flavors - the result is always some unusual but fabulous tasting chili," Fournie says.
The day-of registration fee is $25 for adults and $15 for children 12 and younger. Registration will start at 8 a.m. and the race begins at 9 a.m.
