Durbin vs. Oberweis debate set

Illinois' two Senate candidates will face each other in at least one debate before the Nov. 4 election.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin and Republican state Sen. Jim Oberweis agreed to appear at a televised forum Oct. 29 hosted by the City Club of Chicago and WTTW, it was announced Thursday.

Oberweis, a Sugar Grove dairy magnate, had sought to hold seven debates across the state. Durbin is the second-highest ranking Senate Democrat and seeks a fourth term in office.

Oberweis has gone on the offensive against the incumbent with campaign officials noting the gap between the two is closing.

Meanwhile, Durbin has two ads on television, one focusing on veterans and another on college debt.
