Film explores history of AIDS fight in Africa

Roosevelt University will screen the documentary film "Fire in the Blood" at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23 and 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24 in Alumni Hall at its Schaumburg campus. The public is welcome to attend.

The film explores how Western pharmaceutical companies and governments blocked access to low-cost AIDS drugs in Africa.

Roosevelt University College of Pharmacy professor and Inverness resident Moji Adeyeye will speak about her own experiences after the screenings, as will several other panelists who will speak via Skype.

Adeyeye spent decades researching medications to combat HIV and AIDS in children in Africa, only to have the initiative stalled at the expense of hundreds of thousands of lives, she believes, by drug companies that put their patents and profits first.
