Indiana University honors actor Kevin Kline

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Actor Kevin Kline told an Indiana University audience that his time on the Bloomington campus helped him learn to do more than just imitate what he thought acting looked like.

The Academy Award-winning actor returned to his alma mater on Monday to receive an honorary doctoral degree.

The Herald-Times reports the audience was told about how Kline arrived at IU planning to study music but then enrolled in an acting class and found a passion for acting. The 1970 IU graduate also performed at the Brown County Playhouse before going on to Juilliard in New York.

The IU Cinema has been showing a variety of Kline's films this month, including "The Big Chill," "The Ice Storm," and a screening of "A Fish Called Wanda" after Monday's ceremony.
