Healthy Family Fun a Way of Life in Bensenville

Bensenville, IL -On Saturday September 13, 2014 the Bensenville Community Youth Services Coalition welcomed hundreds of guests to the first ever B-Well Walkathon & Family Fest.

B-Well Bensenville is a community-wide initiative created by the Youth Coalition whose goal is to encourage Bensenville's young people and families to achieve healthier lifestyles by promoting the activities and resources available within the community. This initiative takes a prevention-driven approach to health, supporting policies and environmental changes that promote healthy eating and active living in neighborhoods, schools and workplaces. The Youth Coalition is comprised of members from all of the Village's taxing bodies as well as the DuPage County Health Department, various churches, and healthcare organizations throughout Bensenville.

"The Village of Bensenville encourages and embraces living a healthy lifestyle." stated Bensenville Community Youth Services Coalition President and Village Trustee JoEllen Ridder "Working together we are able to host great events like the B-Well Walkathon & Family Fest to make Bensenville a healthier and happier place to live, work, and play."

The Walkathon & Family Fest started at 10am at the Bensenville Park District and made various stops along the way to Redmond Recreational Complex allowing participants to complete up to 2.7 miles of walking. The first 200 walkers all received free t-shirts donated by the Bensenville Community Foundation.

At the conclusion of the walkathon Redmond Park was set-up for a healthy family fun fest. Available to anyone was a free healthy meal and free access to everything the sport complex has to offer such as ice skating, indoor swimming, climbing wall and ropes course, soccer, volleyball, and a host of other activities. Over 25 different vendors were on hand to provide information on healthy lifestyles and services available as well.
