Grant Helps Impoverished Seniors in DuPage with Endowment Campaign

The Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) has been selected to receive a $3,200 grant from the Mulholland Family Fund of The DuPage Community Foundation. The grant comes as a result of HSP's active role in the community, supporting needy seniors with groceries, personal care items, and gifts through their Senior Citizen Project. (SCP) 123 senior citizens receive groceries every month from HSP. The donation was made on September 9th.

The donation of $3,200 will go towards a matching donation campaign challenge by Allured Business Media. Allured will match the donation of the Mulholland Family Fund and any others up to $7,500 through October 17th. The goal of the campaign is to raise at least $15,000 for an endowment to permanently add one senior to HSP's Senior Citizen Project. This sponsorship will ensure a lifetime of nutritious groceries delivered directly to the senior's home.

The goal of Mulholland Family Fund of the DuPage Community Foundation is to support organizations engaged in helping the needy of DuPage County. As a long-time supporter of HSP, the Mulholland Family Fund of The DuPage Community Foundation has been helping HSP care for needy seniors for over 10 years. As part of a greater whole, the Mulholland Family Fund is operated by The DuPage Community Foundation, which aims to "foster philanthropy, connect donors to area needs and build community partnerships". By providing grants to tax-exempt not-for-profit organizations within DuPage county, the foundation focuses on organizations that fit within certain categories. Last year, The DuPage Community Foundation invested $1.8 million in non-profits that are engaged in and promoting Arts & Culture, Education, Environment, Health, and Human Services. The foundation, which is located at the Wheaton Professional Center just south of downtown Wheaton, is currently led by president Dave McGowan.

About The Humanitarian Service Project

HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane Counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,600 children received gifts and 150 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, bread and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 123 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 900 children. Feed the Kids provides low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
