Hersey has to hustle past Stevenson

Hersey's girls volleyball team notched it second win of the season over Stevenson on Monday night.

But these Patriots were not the same ones the Huskies topped 25-18, 25-11 on Sept. 6. at the Jacobs Invite.

"They (Stevenson) were a much-improved since we faced them a few weeks ago," said Huskies coach Nancy Lill after her team edged the Pats 26-24, 25-23 in a nonconference match at the Ken Carter Gymnasium in Arlington Heights. "We were out of system a little more than we'd like but we were happy to come away with the win. It was a hard-fought battle."

The Huskies improved to 8-4 as junior Liz Fuerst led the attack with 13 kills followed by Gabriella Olhava (5), Kelly Hill (4), Caity Strozewski (3) and Katie Rozanski (1).

Courtney Stedman handed out 24 assists while Paige Pannozzo collected 25 digs.

Fuerst also had 3 blocks and Olhava 2.

The Huskies visit Wheeling today at 6 p.m. in a match for first place in the Mid-Suburban East. Both teams are 3-0.

Fremd d. Lake Zurich: Visiting Fremd improved to 9-2 with a 23-25, 25-18, 26-24 nonconference triumph. Lane Hindenburg (14 kills), Maise Koo (7) and Ysabel Lee (6) led the Vikes' attack while Carly Roberts collected 35 assists and Aubrey Stegich 33 digs.

Top blockers for Fremd were Lee (4), Hope Schroeder (2) and Mackenzie Bednarek (2).

The Vikings host Schaumburg today at 6 p.m. in a match between the Mid-Suburban West co-leaders (3-0).

Rolling Meadow d. Taft: The Mustangs (3-9) notched a 25-18 25-19 nonconference victory as Maddie Sellergren 13-14 (5 kills), Hannah Mickey 13-13 (5 kills), Jenny Srnak (3 kills), and Megan King (3) led the attack.

Srnak also had 3 blocks while King had 8 assists and Megan Mich 6.

Sellergren sparked the back row with 11 digs.

Maine East d. Maine West: The Blue Demons improved to 6-0 with a 26-24, 25-13 at Maine West in the Central Suburban North match.

Hannah Farley had 6 kills and 4 digs for the visitors.
