Church coming to Elk Grove office building
A Christian organization that began in Colombia will open a church in an office building at 1550 Higgins Road in Elk Grove Village, with weekend church services and weeknight Bible study classes. Officials say Centi Illinois's congregation on average numbers 20 to 25 people, with sometimes as many as 40. Centi began as a missionary organization in Colombia in 1963, and has since expanded to 40 countries, with a central office in Miami. Elk Grove Mayor Craig Johnson said it's not the first time a special use has been granted for a church in an industrial area. A former day care at Higgins Road and King Street became a church, and there have been no problems, the mayor said. The board is expected to grant Centi Illinois formal approval on Sept. 23.
