Grandparents, kids enjoy a day of fun at The Holmstad

The Holmstad was brimming with outdoor activity Saturday, Sept. 6, when grandparents, parents and grandkids descended onto campus to celebrate National Grandparents Day. The Holmstad, a faith-based, continuing care retirement community, is located at 700 W. Fabyan Parkway, Batavia.

"It's a joy to see our residents and their families enjoying the afternoon and participating in the activities," says Josh Anderson, executive director at The Holmstad. "It's all about family at The Holmstad, and Grandparents Day is the perfect opportunity to bring everyone together."

There was no shortage of fun that day. Guests took rides in a horse-drawn wagon, and kids played in the bounce house. Guests sat in a face painter's chair and emerged with colorful and sparkling faces; and they watched with amazement as a balloon artist twisted balloons into works of art. Kids swarmed the craft station, where they stuffed their own toy puppies and dressed them in Holmstad T-shirts.

A dog agility performance and pet parade entertained animal lovers, while DiNaso's Traveling World of Reptiles gave everyone a chance to touch the not-so-furry pets. Of course, there was plenty of food: hamburgers and hotdogs, and an ice cream sundae buffet where guests created their own desserts. The Chicago Outskirts provided musical entertainment, along with country solo artist Rick Pickren.
