Geneva man charged with disorderly conduct after Sept. 3 standoff

The Geneva man involved in a Sept. 3 standoff with Geneva police has been charged with disorderly conduct - causing a breach of the peace after police said he fired a handgun in his yard.

Jacob S. Danmar, 66, is accused of violating a city ordinance. He was issued a complaint Thursday with a notice to appear at 9 a.m. Oct. 21 in Kane County Branch Court in St. Charles, according to a news release from the Geneva Police Department.

Police said Danmar had argued with his wife and she went to the police station around 10:30 a.m. Sept. 3 to report Danmar might be in danger because he had a gun in his possession.

According to police, before they arrived, Danmar shot the gun in the yard of his home in the 200 block of Syril Drive. Police then cordoned off the neighborhood and called in a Kane County SWAT team. Officers from the city and the SWAT team were able to contact Danmar, and after about 90 minutes he surrendered.

During the standoff, nearby Faith Christian, St. Peter Catholic and Williamsburg elementary schools were locked down, with students and staff staying inside their buildings.
