Schaumburg firefighters' charity softball event Sept. 13

The Schaumburg Firefighters Benevolent Association will host its 21st annual charity softball tournament from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Olympic Park, 1675 E. Old Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg.

The tournament has raised nearly $550,000 over the past 20 years. Thirty-four fire departments from throughout the Chicago area will come together this year to raise money for Loyola University's Burn Center and the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry. Each year, about $40,000 is raised, with $25,000 going to Loyola, $5,000 going to the food pantry and $5,000 for Christmas gifts for families who cannot afford them.

A raffle with a grand prize of a $1,000 gift card will be held. There also will be a silent auction with autographed sports items, hotel stays, golf outings and many other items.

Weber Grill will be on site grilling burgers and chicken sandwiches. Schaumburg firefighters also will be grilling brats and hot dogs and cooking pizza.
