Guilty plea in $163,000 theft from St. Charles law firm

A former Geneva woman pleaded guilty Thursday to stealing $163,000 from a St. Charles law firm three years ago.

Jordan E. Terry, now of Walkerton, Indiana, is to be sentenced Jan. 7. She faces anywhere from probation to 15 years in prison.

Judge Thomas Stanfa accepted the plea.

Authorities say Terry stole the money between January and August 2011 while working on the office staff for attorney J. Brick van der Snick.

Terry worked at the office for seven years and forged attorney signatures on checks, according to authorities and court records.

Terry, formerly of the 0N400 block of Ford Drive, Geneva, turned herself into St. Charles police in April 2013.

Her defense attorney, Brian Irwin, did not return phone and email messages.

Van der Snick did not return a phone message.

His firm filed a complaint against Terry in 2012, saying she used money to buy a new car and jewelry.

The complaint sought to freeze her bank accounts and get the title to her new vehicle. The firm dismissed the complaint after it and Terry negotiated an agreement, the details of which were not available in court records.

Terry is free on $10,000 bond.
