2 charged with burglarizing Crystal Lake church
A Crystal Lake church has thousands of dollars of property damage after two people burglarized it early Thursday morning, police said.
Authorities were called to the Harvest Bible Chapel Church, 580 Tracy Trail, about 12:40 a.m. after receiving a report of a possible burglary in progress. They found a shattered glass door, and soon after, two people were seen running from the building, according to a news release.
Officers caught up with the pair and took them into custody.
The two suspects charged with felony counts of burglary and theft are Zachary D. Armijo, 24, and Brianna J. Villalobos, 21, both of Woodstock. Armijo also faces a charge of criminal damage to property. The charges were upgraded to felonies since the reported crimes occurred in a place of worship, police said.
Police say the stolen property was primarily electronic items, such as computers and televisions, and officers were able to recover the items nearby.
Deputy Police Chief Derek Hyrkas said police are still waiting to get a detailed list of the property damaged, property stolen and an accurate estimate of the total dollar amount of the stolen items, but it's believed to be in the $10,000 to $100,000 range.
