Goodman, AWJ seek aspiring critics

Goodman Theatre and the Association for Women Journalists invite girls in the 11th grade to apply for the eighth annual Cindy Bandle Young Critics program for 2014-2015.

Named for Goodman's longtime press director, the arts journalism training program pairs high school students with professional writers. They will serve as mentors to participants who will interview directors, designers, actors and playwrights associated with Goodman productions and write reviews and features on the shows.

The eight-month program consists of two Saturday workshop sessions per month and includes Goodman performances. The two-hour workshops begin at 11 a.m., followed on select dates by 2 p.m. matinees. Admission is free, but participants must provide their own transportation to Goodman Theatre in Chicago.

Applications are available online at goodmantheatre.org. They must include a 300-word review of a film or theater production and a 300-word personal statement. The application deadline is Oct. 3.
