Lancer Joust showcases high school marching bands

The 36th annual Lake Park Lancer Joust, an all-day marching band competition, will showcase 17 bands representing high schools from Illinois and Wisconsin.

Preliminary competition begins about 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Lake Park West Campus, 500 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., Roselle.

Bands from Naperville Central, Naperville North, Waubonsie Valley in Aurora, Wheaton North and Wheaton Warrenville South are scheduled to compete, as are units from Downers Grove South, H.D. Jacobs in Algonquin, Herscher (near Kankakee), Hersey in Arlington Heights, Lemont, Lincoln-Way East and Lincoln-Way North in Frankfort, Lockport, Plainfield North, Prospect in Mount Prospect, Warren Township in Gurnee, Wheeling, and Greendale in Wisconsin.

The Lake Park Lancer Marching Band, under the direction of new band director Steve Pyter, will deliver an exhibition performance at 5:15 p.m. to close out the preliminary competition.

The final competition, featuring the 10 top-scoring bands, will begin around 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for students and seniors and $30 for families (maximum of two adults and up to four students). Children 4 and younger are free.
