WINDSOR PARK CELEBRATES ACTIVE AGING WEEK, Sept. 21-27, 2014

This year's theme, "Let the Adventure Begin," complements Covenant Retirement Communities' LifeConnect™ philosophy, which helps residents achieve their personal goals, whether they are social, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, physical or vocational. "Windsor Park is committed to resident-driven, whole person wellness," says Karen Larson, Windsor Park executive director. "Each activity was planned with one of these LifeConnect™ tenets in mind."

The weeklong event is open to the public and unless specified is free of charge.

Highlights of the week include:

Monday, Sept. 22, Life Line Screening, by appointment

Life Line Screening uses the latest pain-free and non-invasive medical technology to test for stroke, atrial fibrillation, abdominal aortic aneurysm, peripheral arterial disease and osteoporosis. Results will be reviewed by staff and board certified physicians. Costs range from $60-$70. To schedule an appointment, call (877) 792-8479.

Monday, Sept. 22, Artist Reception with John Walford, 6:30 p.m., Gathering Place

Walford will provide an artist's perspective of his work, "Slipping Glimpses of the Divine." View Walford's exhibit, ask questions, and listen as Walford speaks about his creative process.

Wednesday, Sept. 24

AARP Driving Class (two-day session: Sept. 24 and 25), 8 a.m., auditorium

Qualify for a discount on your auto insurance and sharpen your driving skills when you participate in this two-session driving class. Cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-AARP members. Reservations required; call Windsor Park at (630) 510-5201.

Wednesday, Sept. 24, Together for Talk and Tea, with Zondra Swanson, 2 p.m.

Enjoy a hot cup of tea and lively conversation with Zondra Swanson, professor emerita, sociology, and Windsor Park women. She'll lead a discussion on the topic "The New Testament Gospel's Impact on the Identity and Status of Women, Then and Now." To register, call (630) 510-5201.

Thursday, Sept. 25

"Discovering the Dutch," Kiwanis Travelogue, bus leaves at 6:45 p.m.

"Discovering the Dutch" video tour goes beyond the clichés and gabled houses and into the stories of history already made, and in the making. Experience North Holland Province, with its historic churches, royal palace and museums, and the Anne Frank house. Visit Gelderland Province, and return to the WWII site of Arnhem and the largest airborne operation of all time-Operation Market Garden.
