Girls volleyball / Lake County roundup

Warren volleyball player Jenna Walczak celebrated her birthday by helping her team earn a victory Wednesday night.

Walczak had 6 kills on 12-of-13 hitting, 8 digs, 2 blocks and served 5 of 5, as the Blue Devils defeated Zion-Benton 25-18, 25-17 in their North Suburban Lake Division opener.

Warren (9-4) also received 4 kills and 4 blocks from Kim Hengesh, while Lauren Frericks added 3 kills, 7 assists (20-of-21 setting) and 8 digs. Nicole Berzin set 27 of 28 with 14 assists, Lindsey Biedron slammed 4 kills on 12-of-13 hitting, Claire Lundtveit and Natalie McNally contributed 2 kills apiece.

Lake Forest d. Lake Zurich: The Scouts rallied to win the North Suburban Lake match 23-25, 25-22, 25-22.

Lake Zurich (4-5, 1-1) was led by Hannah Sweetwood's 13 kills on 17 swings, 3 blocks, 2 aces and 11 digs. Lexi Gora added 8 kills and 3 aces for the Bears, while Mickenzie Andrews had 7 kills and 20 digs. Kiley Dykgraaf dished out 31 assists.
