Two found dead in Fox Lake apartment

Autopsies are scheduled today on two bodies that were discovered yesterday in a Fox Lake apartment, authorities said. The bodies of the man and woman, whose identities were not released by police, were discovered about 11 a.m. on the 300 block of Devlin Road. The Lake County coroner said they appeared to die of gunshot wounds. Full story.

The rain is forecast to continue this morning in the suburbs after a stormy night. The second wave of rain is expected until about 10 a.m. A flash flood watch is in effect until 1 p.m. today.

Storm causes millions in damage to Wheeling High School

The severe storm that ripped through the suburbs Friday afternoon caused as much as $5 million in damages at Wheeling High School that need to be fixed immediately, officials said. The Northwest Suburban High School District 214 school board will hold an emergency meeting Thursday morning to approve waiving competitive bidding and spending the funds needed for quick repairs to the school. Suburban pet stores sue Cook County over puppy mill law

A group of suburban pet stores, including a Petland in Hoffman Estates and Happiness is Pets in Arlington Heights, filed a federal lawsuit this week challenging a Cook County ordinance banning the sale of pets from puppy mills starting Oct. 1. The suit, filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Chicago, claims the ordinance is unconstitutional because it burdens interstate commerce, and asks a court to issue a temporary restraining order preventing its enforcement. Hanover Park police seek public's help in probe of weekend slaying

Hanover Park police are "running down several leads" in the fatal weekend shooting of a 35-year-old Schaumburg man - the village's first homicide since 2011, Deputy Police Chief Andy Johnson said Tuesday. Police have canvassed the Pebblewood Court complex - a mix of condos and rental apartments - several times and interviewed neighbors since the shooting on the 6600 block of Scott Lane near west Lake Street, Johnson said. Fired Inverness music director meets with Cardinal Francis George

Colin Collette, who was recently fired from Holy Family Catholic Community in Inverness after getting engaged to his male partner, met with Cardinal Francis George of the Chicago Archdiocese yesterday. Collette had requested the meeting, which he said was more a "pastoral discussion." Full story.

DuPage forest commission hires executive director - again

DuPage County Forest Preserve District commissioners voted yesterday to hire John Lapinski as executive director. Again. The commission had voted unanimously Aug. 19 to hire Lapinski to replace Arnie Biondo but was forced to take a second vote after a resident questioned the legality of the original proceedings. Toll hike, county gas tax considered to fund Route 53

The resurrection of the Deerfield Toll Plaza, revised toll costs on the north Tri-State and a possible 4-cent gas tax in Lake County are among the ideas an advisory group favors to pay for building a Route 53 extension north. The project that would extend Route 53 to Route 120 as a four-lane parkway faces a funding gap of up to $2.87 billion. Full story.

Rose getting ever closer to being back for Bulls

Instead of worrying about Derrick Rose's performance at the FIBA World Cup, Bulls fans should be happy the Chicago-centric Team USA staff has gift-wrapped a chance for Rose to ease back into basketball. Heading into Tuesday's quarterfinal against Slovenia, Rose was shooting just 21.6 percent from the field while going 1-for-11 from 3-point land.
