Scarecrow Fest contest entry deadline approaching

Does your scarecrow have what it takes to be a true "fashioni-straw"?

There's only one way to find out. Enter your handmade scarecrow in the annual Scarecrow Contest sponsored by St. Charles Bank and Trust at the 29th annual St. Charles Scarecrow Fest - Presented by AAA, Oct. 10-12.

St. Charles' Lincoln Park, Main Street, between Fourth and Fifth streets, and the former VFW lot on Third Street, between State and Cedar, will again showcase more than 100 handmade scarecrows.

Visitors will be able to vote for their best in show choices in one of six competition categories: Mechanical, Traditional, Whimsical, St. Charles Business, Children's Clubs and Organizations, and Family.

Interested scarecrow contest participants can visit www.ScarecrowFest.com/contest_entry.php to register for the contest online, as well as read more about contest rules, restrictions and prize breakdowns for each category. Entry deadline is Wednesday, Oct. 1.

This year marks the first in fest history that all contest entries are being accepted electronically. Unless an entry does not fit the contest parameters, all entrants will receive email notification, including check-in information Friday, Sept. 26. Entries that do not meet contest parameters are notified immediately and asked to resubmit applications accordingly.

During the festival, scarecrow contest ballots will be available for visitors to pick up at the Greater St. Charles Convention and Visitors Bureau's information booth on Fourth Street, next to Lincoln Park.

All winning scarecrows will be announced Sunday, Oct. 12, at the closing ceremonies beginning at 4 p.m. at the Delnor Hospital Entertainment Stage in Lincoln Park.

The Greater St. Charles Convention and Visitors Bureau is funded by a portion of the hotel/motel tax collected by St. Charles hotels and by the Illinois Office of Tourism for the purpose of promoting Greater St. Charles as a destination for leisure tourists and meetings and conventions, sports events, and motor coach trips.
