Trial delayed for 74-year-old man accused of assaulting child

The trial of a 74-year-old Mundelein man facing 120 years in prison for molesting a child under the age of 13 has been delayed until Jan. 4, officials said Tuesday.

Bobby Tinkes remains free from Lake County jail after posting the required 10 percent of his $450,000 bail, Assistant State's Attorney Jason Grindel said.

Tinkes engaged in multiple sex acts with the minor under the age of 13 from 2010 to 2013, Grindel said.

He was charged with four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse after an investigation by Mundelein Police, Grindel said. Tinkes admitted to police he committed some of the sex acts, Grindel said.

Under state law, Tinkes can be sentenced a maximum of 120 years in prison, Grindel said, even though each predatory criminal sexual abuse charge carries a sentence of 6 to 60 years in prison. He can be sentenced to 3 to 7 years in prison if found guilty on the sexual abuse charge.

The trial was initially scheduled to begin Tuesday. Tinkes is due back in court Nov. 18 for a pretrial hearing.
