An Amazing Family Needs Your Help!
When I first met Yvonne, she was the most vibrant upbeat woman I had ever seen. She immediately hugged me and welcomed me in as if I was her own child. I have known the Block family for many years now, and have seen how cancer has taken over their lives physically, financially, and emotionally. Marc, her husband, had a painting company called "Painting for Cancer". He donated a certain amount to charities of his earnings, despite the numerous medical bills the family had already faced. Brittany, Kristin and Brandon are selfless, wonderful people that can light up any room. Marc is one of the kindest and funniest men I have ever know. Anyone who knows them would be able to tell you what wonderful amazing people they are. That is why I am asking the community to please reach out and help, as they would for any family in need.
Yvonne has had breast cancer, twice. She has gone through countless chemotherapy, radiation, and homeopathic methods to try to beat this horrible disease. About a year ago, her story was featured on WGN by Julian Crews. He even shaved his head in support for Yvonne. A fundraiser was also hosted at Charlie's of Grayslake by myself and a few friends, in order to help them offset medical expenses. Unfortunately, Yvonne's cancer had returned during that time. But, she still remained optimistic and full of life. She is one of the most amazing people I have had a chance to have in my life, basically a second mother. Her wonderful children, Brittany, Brandon, and Kristin are wonderful people along with Marc. I consider them as family.
Yvonne has now begun to lose her battle. It is not fair, it is not right, and it is a horrible tragic situation. I will be hosting a fundraiser on September 20 at Charlie's (pending Yvonne's condition) beginning at 8:00 pm. We will have raffle prizes as well as a 50/50 raffle. We will be charging $20.00 for a wristband for beer for the evening. All proceeds will go to the family. I would like to thank Brendan Rafferty, as he has always helped us plan and run the event amazingly, as well as Charlie's of Grayslake.
I have set up a go fund me page for medical expenses as well as future expenses for the family as time is very limited for Yvonne. Please consider sharing, coming to the event, or simply saying a prayer for a family who has been through so much. For such a tight knit family, this has been extremely difficult to come to terms with. I love you, Block Family and I promise you, you are not alone. This too, shall pass. Until then, you have me, friends, family and the community rallying behind you during this tragic time.
