Faith Christian Academy hosts Dig Pink Volleyball Classic

Four local schools are joining efforts to fight breast cancer at the inaugural Dig Pink Volleyball Classic on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Faith Christian Academy in Geneva.

The tournament will feature Harvest Christian Academy of Elgin, Calvary Christian School of Naperville, Mooseheart School of North Aurora and Faith Christian Academy.

All proceeds benefit the Side-Out Foundation, which awards grants to medical research organizations dedicated to providing patient services to breast cancer patients and their families.

The tournament will open with a special ceremony at 9 a.m. Each player from the four schools will play in honor or in memory of a woman who is battling or has battled breast cancer. Each team member will be introduced during the opening ceremonies. Pink carnations will be handed out to all tournament attendees who have been touched by breast cancer.

The tournament is a Pink-Out. Players, coaches and spectators are encouraged to wear pink to raise awareness of breast cancer.

Tournament action begins at 9:30 a.m., when Calvary Christian plays Harvest Christian. Faith Christian faces Mooseheart in the other semifinal match at 10:30 a.m. The third-place match is at 11:30 a.m., and the finals are at 12:45 p.m. First- through fourth-place team trophies will be awarded as well as player ribbons.

Members of the community are invited to attend the tournament. Admission is $3 for adults and is free for students and kids ages 18 and younger. Proceeds will make a difference in the lives of breast cancer patients.
