Woman accused of DUI in Illinois trooper wreck

BERKELEY - A woman already on probation for a drunken-driving conviction is jailed without bond after being accused of being intoxicated when her car hit and injured an Illinois State Police trooper on a Chicago-area freeway.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that a judge Sunday set 59-year-old Leslie Thurow's bail at $450,000 on charges of aggravated leaving the scene of a police-involved crash, aggravated DUI and aggravated DUI involving personal injury

But the Mount Prospect woman was ordered held without bond for violating two years of probation she received last week on the previous DUI conviction linked to a June accident. She also was convicted of DUI in 2008.

Authorities allege Thurow hit a 28-year-old trooper Saturday afternoon on northbound Interstate 294 near Berkeley and continued driving two more miles. Prosecutors say her car eventually hit a retaining wall twice and struck a silver Acura, causing it to roll over with seven family members inside. Those passengers, ranging in age from 3 years old to 73, were taken to hospitals, though their medical status isn't immediately available.

Authorities say Thurow's blood-alcohol level was more than twice the state's legal threshold.

Police say the trooper was hospitalized Sunday in critical condition.

It's not immediately clear if Thurow has an attorney. She doesn't have a listed home telephone number.
