Boomers advance behind Webster
The Schaumburg Boomers, behind the pitching of Seth Webster, defeated the visiting Lake Erie Crushers 1-0 on Saturday night in the Frontier League wild-card game.
Webster tossed the first 9-inning, complete-game shutout in team history, striking out a franchise-record 13. The Boomers gave Webster all the run support he would need with a single run in the third. Lake Erie starter Connor Whalen retired the first two hitters of the inning before Alexi Colon smacked a double to left-center. Joe De Pinto brought Colon home with a single up the middle.
Webster struck out seven of the first nine hitters he faced and carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning. Former Boomer Craig Hertler broke up the no-hit bid with a single to center. Trevor Stevens followed with a single and Lake Erie did not register a hit the rest of the game as Webster induced a double-play ball to erase the threat.
Seven different individuals had hits for the Boomers.
Schaumburg (61-35, 1-0) welcomes the Southern Illinois Miners on Monday night to open the best-of-three Frontier League divisional series.
