Journey Back to Schaumburg Township's Roots with Local History Programs at the Library

Schaumburg Township's turn-of-the-century founders, and the barnstormers who flew over the developing community, will be the subject of upcoming programs at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg.

Genealogist Larry Nerge will share photos and stories reflecting Schaumburg's roots during "Turning the Century in Schaumburg Township" from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 7 in the library's Rasmussen Room on the second floor. Based on years of local history research, Nerge will talk about the community's German ancestors at this free social gathering. His family tree, with roots that began in Germany, crossed the ocean to play a key role in founding Schaumburg Township. This fun and informational afternoon event is open to all.

Author Nick Selig will take his audience on a virtual journey back in time to the "Lost Airports of Chicago" from 7-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 10 in the library's Rasmussen North Room. Selig will discuss the barnstormers who took to the air, and military pilots who used regional airstrips to practice their touch-and-go's. Attendees will discover the role Schaumburg Township played in this story.

Registration is required for both of these free programs. To register, call (847) 923-3347 or visit the Information Desk on the library's second floor.
