Lakes handles Woodstock North

Jake Balliu's big night helped Lakes' football team improve to 2-0 Friday night, as the Eagles knocked off visiting Woodstock North 30-17 in nonconference action.

The senior rushed 13 times for 141 yards and caught 3 passes for 30 yards. Balliu scored on a 64-yard run and also hauled in a 16-yard TD toss from Jordan Mercure.

Mercure (10-of-15 passing, 111 yards) threw touchdown passes to Matt Heerema (2 yards) and Lucas Kuzmanovich (14 yards), as well. Mercure added 68 rushing yards on 11 rushes.

Dan Recker and Alex Jennrich led the Lakes defense with 11 tackles each, and Cody Brumm chipped in a 37-yard field goal, as the Eagles extended a 7-0 advantage after one quarter to 24-10 by halftime.

Woodstock North fell to 0-2.
