Gurnee woman accused of abducting child now held in Lake County jail

A Gurnee woman charged with trying to take her daughter to Texas without authorization is held in Lake County jail on $150,000 bond, officials said Friday.

Siomara Alvarado, 37, will appear before Judge Christen Bishop on Sept. 17 for bond review after being charged with two counts of child abduction, court records show.

Alvarado, also known as Siomara Gutierrez, will reman in jail unless she is able to post 10 percent of her bail, authorities said.

Child abduction is a class 4 felony that carries a prison sentence of 1 to 3 years.

Alvarado was arrested by police in Springfield while trying to purchase train tickets to Texas with her 7-year-old daughter, Assistant State's Attorney Stephen Scheller said. It is believed she was trying to take the girl to the Mexican border, Scheller said.

Court records show Alvarado and the girl's father have a joint custody agreement for the child.

Alvarado was arrested after exiting a bus from Galesburg, authorities said. She was picked up by Lake County sheriff's deputies in Springfield on Wednesday and appeared in bond court Thursday.

The child was found in good health and was reunited with her father in Springfield, authorities said.
