DuPage resident appointed dean of Roosevelt University's Heller College of Business

Joseph O. Chan, professor of Information Systems in Roosevelt University's Walter E. Heller College of Business, has been appointed dean, effective immediately. Chan, 61, a resident of Burr Ridge, Ill., is an accomplished educator, administrator and former executive at Oracle.

"Dr. Chan served as Interim Dean of the Heller College from 2007 to 2008 when he accomplished many foundational changes with the faculty," said Roosevelt University President Chuck Middleton. "His leadership experience, vast knowledge of the College and the University, and his commitment to student success make him the ideal person to again lead the Heller College."

"I am pleased to be appointed at a very exciting time for the Heller College of Business," Chan said. "I look forward to working with the faculty and the administrative team to advance the College and provide a high quality student-focused business education that emphasizes academic excellence and social responsibility."

Before joining Roosevelt in 2002, Chan served in industry for over 15 years, and has held senior management positions at a number of technology firms, including his last appointment at Oracle Corporation as Vice President of Core Technology Services and e-Business Solutions.

An award-winning teacher, researcher and author, Chan received the Outstanding Research Award from the Heller College in 2006, the Chicago Professorship award from the Heller College in 2005-06, and the Best Author Award from the Journal of American Academy of Business in both 2005 and 2006.

Chan is an accomplished scholar, and has published many research articles and book chapters in Information Systems. He is a fellow and executive director at the International Information Management Association. He is also on the editorial review board for a number of academic journals. An active practitioner in enterprise information management, Chan has consulted extensively and is the principal author of many proprietary reports for over 20 businesses and governmental agencies.

Chan earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Haverford College and master's and doctoral degrees from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Illinois, Chicago.
