Fast-food workers in Milwaukee join wage protest

MILWAUKEE - Several dozen fast-food workers in Milwaukee have gathered in the rain in the latest demonstration for a higher wage.

The employees Thursday joined hundreds of workers from McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco bell and other fast-food chains who are expected to walk off their jobs nationwide to support an hourly wage of at least $15.

Outside a McDonald's in Milwaukee, fast-food worker Mary Coleman tells WTMJ-TV that it's tough to survive on $7.25 an hour, the federal minimum. Coleman says she hopes corporate CEOs hear the workers' protests and "do the right thing."

The protests are expected to take place at fast-food restaurants in 150 cities nationwide Thursday. President Barack Obama referenced the "Fight for $15" campaign during a Labor Day appearance in Milwaukee.
