Day of Giving for Girl Battling Brain Tumor at Culver's of Buffalo Grove Sept. 8

As 4-year-old Mia Gurevitz of Deerfield undergoes treatment for a brain tumor at Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago, a Buffalo Grove business is doing something to help her family offset the mounting medical bills. And with September being 'National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month,' the timing couldn't be more appropriate.

Culver's of Buffalo Grove will host a 'Day of Giving" fundraiser, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., on Monday, September 8, at its location at 450 McHenry Rd. The restaurant will donate 20 percent of its register receipts collected throughout the day to the Gurevitz family.

Mia, who now attends preschool at Pritchett Elementary in Buffalo Grove, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor at age 2. She went through six months of extensive testing before being diagnosed. Shortly after, Mia began chemotherapy. "It has been a long, tough two years for Mia, but she continues to amaze and inspire us with her upbeat attitude and the way that she has battled her illness," says Mia's mom, Lisa.

Culver's of Buffalo Grove Franchise Partner Kevin Weasler encourages the entire community to come support the cause: "September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the perfect opportunity for our restaurant, along with our guests, to show our support for Mia and her family."
