Where do we go to find our confidence?

"So do not throw away your confidence, it will be richly rewarded."

- Hebrews 10:35

Is something shaking your confidence? No matter how old we are, or where we are in our life journey, we can all use a boost of confidence.

What is confidence? It is a feeling of assurance. When we feel insecure in a situation, it shows we lack confidence.

Where does confidence come from? Confidence comes from God and our experiences. It's God working with us to build our feelings of confidence in an area. When we feel weak and unable to accomplish a task or confront a situation, we need to ask God to help us have the emotional strength to do it.

God builds our confidence in many ways. One way is by facing a fear and continuing to do the right thing, even when we are afraid to do so. Once we have accomplished that task, we start to feel a little more confident than we did at first.

Eventually, when we keep moving forward and our confidence is built up, we receive the reward of accomplishing what we set out to do.

When we lack feeling confident, we might draw back from a situation, even if it is one that will be good for us.

Many years ago, in the early years of my nursing career, I accepted a nursing position that was out of my field of expertise. The first few weeks seemed overwhelming and I wondered if I had made a mistake. I almost quit because I felt so insecure.

But I looked at the good things the job had to offer and I stuck it out. Two years later, my ability and confidence to do the job had flourished and I was asked to take a supervisor position.

That changed the course of my career and led me down a new and exciting path.

The reason we aren't used by God and don't accomplish greater things is that we don't lean on him for our confidence. Instead, we often trust the feeling of insecurity and give up. With God and determination, we can move forward and grow in the confidence we need to succeed in life.
