Veterans Assistance Commission gives out Eagle Award

The Veterans Assistance Commission of Lake County, Illinois, presented Eagle Awards to Lake County Chief Judge John Phillips and Mary Ellen Vanderventer during its annual picnic at Bangs Lake in Wauconda Sunday, Aug. 17.

Judge Phillips led the way in instituting the Veterans Treatment Court in Lake County. In its two years, the program has a 100 percent success rate without any veterans returning to the criminal justice system.

Vanderventer provided support to the Veterans Assistance Commission in promoting its mission with a county wide distribution of the Lake County Veterans Benefit booklet.

The VAC provides emergency assistance to veterans and their families in Lake County and is certified by the VA General Counsel to process claims on behalf of veterans.
