French market returns to Mt. Prospect on Sept. 7

Mount Prospect Marché Français - A Farmers market with a French twist, is a weekend event for the whole family, held 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7 at the Mount Prospect Metra Commuter Parking Lot (a few blocks west of Route 83 along Northwest Highway).

On this special day, French flags and decorations adorn the entrance with musicians creating a warm, festive ambience and crepes and coffee available at one of the many cafe tables.

Merchants, some coming from as far as Mount Carroll and Galena are bringing imported goods from France, homemade items, jewelry and more, said Mount Prospect Public Information Officer Marianthi Thanopoulos.

Additional items for sale include French linens, vintage furniture, paintings, stained glass, crafts, and French-inspired crepes.

The Mount Prospect Public Library is hosting a family story time at 10 a.m. and children can learn French words in a fun way at the Language Stars booth.

Stop by the Sister Cities' booth where children can pick up stickers and adults can choose from an array of original, handmade gifts.

The Marché Français is sponsored by the Mount Prospect Sister Cities Commission as a way to promote French culture and the Sister City connection that Mount Prospect has with Sèvres, France.

Right next door is the Lions Club Farmers' Market with a variety of fruits, vegetables, crafts and more.

Free parking is across the street at the northeast corner of Pine Street and Northwest Highway, at Wille Street and Northwest Highway and in the village hall parking garage, 50 S. Emerson St.
