Second Baptist pastor Nathaniel Edmond to be next 'CEO Unplugged'

Find out how the Rev. Dr. Nathaniel L. Edmond, pastor of Second Baptist Church of Elgin, defines his leadership style by attending the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce popular series, "CEO Unplugged," sponsored by the Grand Victoria Casino.

The luncheon will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the Fox River Room on the second floor of the Grand Victoria Casino pavilion, 250 S. Grove Ave. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. with a buffet luncheon at 11:45 a.m. and the program beginning at noon. Questions and networking will follow. Edmond was licensed into the Gospel Ministry on May 2, 1993, at the Lincoln Heights Baptist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. He joined Second Baptist Church in November 1993. Later, he was ordained in the ministry on April 30, 1995, and was installed as pastor of Second Baptist Church on Feb. 20, 2000.

Edmond, who received his bachelor's degree from Xavier University in Louisiana, is a graduate of the Executive Management Program from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. In 2010, he received an honorary doctorate of theology from Judson University. He also has extensive training in theology/religion and philosophy, and has completed the young pastoral training classes at the National Baptist Sunday School Congress. Additionally, he is a certified family counselor who has several years of experience in family, marriage, and teen counseling. He is certified for field education for Moody Graduate School.

In 2005, Edmond was the recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award for the city of Elgin and the distinguished Volunteer Award for Elgin Area School District U-46. He received the Quad County Urban League Outstanding Religious Leader Award and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Community Impact Award for Leadership; Paul Harris Fellow - Elgin Rotary; Partner in Peace Award - Community Crisis Center for Domestic Violence Ministry; Distinguish Citizen, Boys & Girls Club; Lasting Impact Award, Elgin Community College.

He is married to Christine Dargin Edmond, has two daughters, Natonya and Adrienne, and a grandson, Colin Tierre, and two granddaughters, Kayli Simone and Christiana Chantel. He is retired from Alcoa Aluminum as vice president of sales & marketing in December of 2002.

The luncheon series is led by members of the Elgin Area Chamber special events committee: chair Pat Szpekowski, PmS advertising, inc., and Kelly Brown, Four Seasons Redesign; Toni Henry, Winergy; Yvonne Irving, KCT Credit Union; Tena Robotham, Judson University, and Michael Storey, Elgin Country Club.
