Police: Chicago man in SUV runs over baby

A Chicago man has been charged with battery after police say he hit his girlfriend and her 7-year-old son before running over her 8-month-old daughter's leg with an SUV.

Joseph Fults was charged with misdemeanor battery and domestic battery Tuesday. A judge ordered the 46-year-old held on $100,000 bond.

Police say Fults handed the girl to his girlfriend when she was outside of the car. They say the baby dropped to the ground just before Fults accelerated. Police had initially said he threw the baby from the SUV.

They say he had punched is 23-year-old girlfriend and hit her 7-year-old son when he tried to intervene.

Police say both children were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Online Cook County jail records didn't indicate an attorney.
