Elgin man gets 9½ years for raping child

A 45-year-old Elgin man has been sentenced to 9½ years in prison for the 2011 rape of a child he knew well.

Juan C. Ramirez pleaded guilty last week to one count of predatory criminal sexual assault, according to Kane County prosecutors and court records.

Ramirez committed a sex act in December 2011 on the victim, who was younger than 12 at the time, according to prosecutors.

Judge Susan Clancy Boles accepted the plea; Ramirez faced a maximum sentence of 30 years.

Ramirez must serve 85 percent of the term, or about eight years, and gets credit for about 14 months at the Kane County jail since his July 2013 arrest, according to prosecutors and court records.

He also must register a sex offender for the rest of his life.
