Audition for 'The Diary of Anne Frank' Sept. 8-9 at ECC

Elgin Community College Theatre announces auditions for the fall production of "The Diary of Anne Frank." The play, based upon "Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl," is by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, and newly adapted by Wendy Kesselman. This production will be directed by Susan A. Robinson, ECC theater instructor and program coordinator.

Audition appointments are available from 6:30 to 10 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, and from 6:30 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9. If necessary, callbacks are scheduled from 6:30 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10. At callbacks, actors who have been invited back will read scenes from the play and will be expected to stay the entire time.

All auditions are held at the Building H Arts Center, Room H245, on the ECC Spartan Drive Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

In this powerful new adaptation, Anne Frank emerges from history a living, lyrical, and intensely gifted young girl. This impassioned drama captures the fear, hope, laughter, and grief of eight people hiding in an attic in Nazi-occupied Amsterdam.

Auditions are open to actors ages 16 and older. This production features five men and five women in major ensemble roles and three men in minor roles. Those auditioning should familiarize themselves with the play, prepare a one- to two-minute memorized monologue and bring a résumé, if they have one. Copies of the play are on reserve at the ECC library.

Rehearsals begin Monday, Sept. 15 and are held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. "The Diary of Anne Frank" opens Friday, Oct. 31 and runs weekends through Sunday, Nov. 16.
