Dogs have their day at Carol Stream festival

Tails will be waggin' and noses sniffin' when Carol Stream Park District sponsors its annual CSBarks Dog Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at Carol Stream Town Center at Gary Avenue and Lies Road.

The Barks celebration is one of the area's largest festivals devoted to dogs and was declared one of the best in the country by Animal Planet.

Highlights of this year's festival are expected to include Skydogz performances, the Ultimate Air Dogs dock diving competition, wiener dog races, a parade of breeds, a dog Olympics, dog party games, demonstrations, dozens of dog vendors in the Fido Shopping Mall, an off-leash area and the Rover Rest Area for tired pups.

"The CSBarks Dog Festival is a tribute to our four-legged friends and celebrates the relationship of pet owners and their loyal companions, said Kelly Carbon, community relations manager for Carol Stream Park District. "The festival is a great way to get pet owners out to the Town Center with their dogs. We will give the dogs a day just for them."

Dog videography enthusiasts can enter the CSBarks Tricks 'n' Traits Contest by posting a video on the CSBarks Dog Festival Facebook page. The five entries with the most "Likes" will be invited to perform their Trick or Trait in the main arena at the festival. For eligibility and prizes, visit www.csbarks.org.

Admission to the festival is free. Some activities, including the dock diving, will have a small participation fee. For a full activity line up, visit www.csbarks.org.

Friendly, leashed and vaccinated dogs (and their owners) are welcome.
