Illinois trooper SUV crashes with car, rolls over

SPRINGFIELD - An Illinois State Police trooper has been taken to a hospital after a car crashed into his SUV and caused it to roll over.

The State Journal-Register reports 32-year-old Trooper Bryce Benton and a 59-year-old female driver weren't seriously injured in the Monday crash.

Lt. Darrin Clark says Benton was traveling eastbound on South Grand Ave. in his police SUV with emergency lights and sirens activated. Clark says the northbound car collided with the SUV in the intersection at South Dirksen Parkway.

Clark says Benton was able to exit the overturned SUV without help. He says both drivers went to a hospital for precautionary reasons. Citations are pending.

Clark says another two-car crash occurred in the same location at around the same time. He says it's unclear what caused that crash.
