Veterans urged to attend VA meeting

Veterans Assistance Commission Superintendent Michael Peck is urging all interested veterans to attend the Lovell Federal Health Care Center Town Hall meeting at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Burke Hall, Building 4, 3001 Green Bay Road, North Chicago. Peck has asked all veterans service organizations to send a delegate to the meeting. "We need the veterans to tell the VA what is right and what is wrong with the current system. In Illinois, only 9 percent of veterans receive compensation, yet 30 percent are registered for health care," Peck said. The town hall meeting is mandated at every VA facility by the new Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Robert McDonald, to ensure voices of veterans are heard in resolving recent problems at the VA, including the waiting list of appointments and backlog of claims, Peck said.
