Cougars fall to Chiefs in 1st home loss this month

The Kane County Cougars dropped a 4-2 decision to the Peoria Chiefs in Midwest League action before 10,314 at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva on Saturday night.

The Cougars (45-23, 90-48) suffered their first home loss during August as the pitchers for the Chiefs (34-34, 71-66) struck out 13 batters.

Down 4-1 in the bottom of the ninth, the Cougars loaded the bases on a single, walk and catcher's interference to bring the potential winning run to the plate in Chesny Young. He hit a sacrifice fly that scored Daniel Lockhart, but the next batter struck out to end the game.

Earlier, Yasiel Balaguert had an RBI single that scored Young.

The final series of the regular season continues today at 6:30 p.m. when the Cougars' Ben Wells (3-0, 2.01 ERA) makes the start against his former team.
