LLKpalooza music extravaganza raises money for cancer research

After raising $150,000 for cancer research last year, the LiveLikeKatie Foundation will hold LLKpalooza, an encore music fundraising extravaganza, from 2 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Maryknoll Park, Pershing Avenue and Route 53, in Glen Ellyn.

LLKpalooza is a live music festival designed to raise money for cancer research at the University of Chicago Cancer Research Center.

The foundation was established to honor the memory of Katie Vogg, a longtime Glen Ellyn resident who died in 2011 from a rare form of cancer. In establishing the foundation, Vogg's family and friends have made it their mission to follow Katie's examples of goodness and unselfish service, and to do everything in their power to eradicate cancer. Their hope is that by equipping doctors and researchers, in the not-too-distant future, doctors will be able to say, "It's just cancer and we can cure this."

LLKpalooza is designed to bring a community of people together for a day of music and fun; recognize the challenges that cancer brings to our extended community; and, most importantly, raise funds to endow cancer research.

Admission is $40 for adults, $20 for kids. Once costs are covered for this event, the proceeds will support the ongoing cancer research at the University of Chicago Cancer Research Center. Sponsorship opportunities and additional details are available at llkpalooza.com.

The music lineup for the event follows:

• 3 to 4 p.m.: Katie's Basement (acoustic)

• 4 to 5 p.m.: White Collar Criminal

• 5 to 6 p.m.: Mike & Matt of The Truss

• 6 to 8 p.m.: Katie's Basement (full band)

• 8 to 8:30 p.m.: Scott Vogg (acoustic)

• 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.: Michael Heaton
