Geocaching new addition at Bartlett Heritage Days

A techy treasure hunt will make its debut at Bartlett's annual fall festival.

Geocachers will search for a medallion made by a local artist and hidden somewhere on the grounds of the Bartlett Heritage Days during opening day Sept. 5.

The rules are straightforward: register online at Geocaching.com. You'll receive specific coordinates on a GPS device or smartphone (there's an app for that) that plot the secret location. And then after some digging - voilĂ ! - you could stumble on the "geocache," a container holding the medallion.

Artist Lambert Lucietto designed the piece at the request of Cecilia Green, one of the festival's organizers and a founder of Arts in Bartlett.

While she's tight-lipped about clues leading to the medallion's discovery, Green offers this about the geocachers:

"I think they'll learn a little bit more about Bartlett," she said.

The festival runs from Sept. 5 through Sept. 7. For details, visit Bartlettheritagedays.com.
