Welcome to the show! Soler homers in first at-bat

CINCINNATI - Outfielder Jorge Soler homered in his first big league at-bat on Wednesday night off Cincinnati's Mat Latos, a noteworthy debut for the Cubs' 22-year-old prospect.

Soler connected on a 2-1 pitch from Latos in the second inning, hitting the ball onto the netting above the Reds bullpen in center field. He's the first Cubs player to homer in his first at-bat in the majors since Starlin Castro connected off Homer Bailey in Cincinnati on May 7, 2010.

The Cuban signed a nine-year, $30 million contract last season. He was promoted before the game on Wednesday, part of Chicago's youth movement. Soler, who has decided to keep his No. 68 in the majors, is the eighth Cubs player to make his debut this season.
