CCU sponsor offers six $1,500 scholarships

Waukegan, IL, August 26, 2014: Consumers Cooperative Association (CCA), sponsor for Consumers Credit Union (CCU; $610 M. Waukegan, IL) announced the opportunity for six high school seniors to earn $1,500.00 scholarships. The applications will be available at all CCU locations and on the credit union's website starting Sept. 2, 2014. Applicants must be on pace to graduate from high school by spring 2015.

"CCA is proud to offer young people the opportunity to further their educational goals," noted Liz Oldham, Consumers Cooperative Association president. "The Scholarship Committee of the Association always looks forward to reviewing the applications. The applicants' comments underscore the importance of a quality education for our students, a fact that's further reflected by the number and quality of the applications we receive."

Applicants will be evaluated in the following categories: academic performance, financial need and leadership abilities, including community involvement. High school students scheduled to graduate by the spring of 2015 are eligible to apply, provided the applicant and/or parent/guardian has been a Member of Consumers Credit Union for a minimum of one year. Completed applications must include a nonreturnable photo of the student. Those awarded scholarships will be featured in an upcoming issue of The Reporter, CCU's newsletter, and will be recognized at the credit union's annual meeting on March 18, 2015.

Applications must include the student's official high school transcript through their junior year, along with a copy of their first semester grades from the current academic year. In addition to CCU locations and www.myconsumers.org, applications are also scheduled to be available at area high schools starting next week. The deadline to apply is the end of the current calendar year, leaving ample time for interested students to apply.
