Bands ready to square off in final battle

Side Street Studio Arts, 15 Ziegler Court, Elgin, in conjunction with Rockfest Press Photography and Theory Prints, have been hosting a summer-long Battle of the Bands.

Battle of the Bands is a celebration of local and regional musicians and will culminate with the final Battle between Rune the Lion and The Shakes & Rumbles at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29.

The winner will receive more than $2,000 in prizes from Rebel Black Audio, BIG EAR nyc, Fat Cat Custom Guitars & Repair, Rockfest Press Photography, Theory Prints, and Side Street Studio Arts. These events are open to the public, with a $5 suggested donation at the door.

Audience members vote for the one band they prefer.

"This summer has been so exciting, musically," said art studio director Tanner Melvin. "We have fallen in love with some new area bands, exposed a variety of audiences to a variety of musicians, and really had a great time! I wouldn't miss the final couple battles for anything."
