Row America offers free trial classes in St. Charles

Ever wanted to flex your muscles try rowing? Row America, based at Ferson Creek Park in St. Charles, offers classes for recreation and racing. The company offers a free trial class to give potential rowers a taste of the sport.

Naperville resident David Miller, instructor and director of the St. Charles club, taught several women Friday morning how to row, and all showed interest in further pursuing the sport.

"My favorite thing about it was when we all got into unison - once or twice - and then feeling the power of moving the rows through the water. That stroke power is kind of fun," said Heather O'Brien of St. Charles.

"When you felt it go right, it felt amazing," said Lue Hagarty of St. Charles. "The power behind it was great. I think it's really fun."

Rowing classes are offered to those 9 and older, and there is a competitive racing team for high schoolers. A regatta race will be held Oct. 4 in St. Charles. For more information, go to rowstcharles.com.
